The Sanskrit word “Dhatu” means “that which enters into the formation of the body” According to Ayurveda each tissue is formed from the previous tissue in ascending order. Each dhatu is fed by the previous dhatu. Rasa dhatu is converted into Rakta dhatu (blood) with the help of Rasagni and Rakta with the help of Raktagni is converted into Mamsa dhatu (muscle tissue).
